Choosing and designing a VRF/VRV system
VRF/VRV is the system we specify most often for Kenyan offices, hotels and mixed-use buildings, so it's worth explaining what goes into getting it right.
A wall split cools one room from one outdoor unit. VRF/VRV links a single outdoor condensing unit to many indoor units across a building, each zoned independently — fewer outdoor units, centralised control, and the ability to move heat between zones on some systems rather than reject it outright.
Pipe run length, branch/refnet joint placement and height difference between outdoor and indoor units all affect system performance and are worked out at design stage, not left to site improvisation.
